Lighting Research Center, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY, USA This paper describes an experiment designed to establish the effect of size, luminance and ambient light level on the probability of sparkle being perceived when looking at an array of luminous apertures. From the data collected, iso- probability contours for the perception of sparkle are developed and their application demonstrated.
