Review: Subjective criteria for lighting designPeter Jay and Partners, 176a Sutherland Avenue, London, UK A distinction is drawn between two types of lighting installation - functional and subjective. In the first type ease of seeing is the primary requirement, in the second other considerations have equal importance. The characteristics of common examples of each kind of installation are given and it is shown that these are entirely consistent with current ideas of the visual process, as indicated by extracts from recent scientific literature.
