Possible optical, visual and behavioural effects of eyelids

Lucia R. Ronchi, PhD

Istituto Nazionale di Ottica, Largo Enrico Fermi 6, 50125 Arcetri-Firenze, Italy

The visual system operates under automatic controls through a number of servo systems. Among other effects, we note that the visual depth of focus may increase when the eyelid invades the pupil area. The difficulties met in trying to account for this finding by classical optics are reviewed.
