Designing for quality as a routineBritish Lighting Industries Ltd
National Westminster Bank Group Present design methods for achieving improved quality lighting are being used mainly by a few experienced designers. The techniques are considered to be too complicated and time-consuming for those engaged in routine design. This paper describes a new approach based on the development of a range of fittings having specific light distributions. The method is illustrated by an installation for bank premises in which fittings with an asymmetric distribution were used. After completion, the installation was appraised by three groups and photometric measurements were made. The results obtained are compared with the design objectives.
